As long the rules of the Central Bank of Iceland on foreign exchange do not permit investment in foreign denominated securities, investors will only be only permitted to invest in financial instruments denominated in foreign currency if they are re-investing in funds already held in foreign currencies. What is it?
The Global Portfolio – Fund 12 is a fund of funds. It invests in equity funds that invest in companies listed on global stock markets.
Objective
The Fund's objective is long-term capital appreciation.
Who Should Invest?
The Global Portfolio fund is suitable for investors who seek to invest long-term in global equity markets. The Global Portfolio is an attractive option because it offers excellent risk diversification in international equity holdings. By investing in well diversified equity funds, the Fund is invested in a large number of individual companies and can thus provide a suitable core of foreign assets in a diversified portfolio. Trends in recent years show that prices of securities fluctuate substantially, downturns can last for lengthy periods and investors should be prepared to tolerate substantial price fluctuations.
Investment Policy
The Global Portfolio invests in funds that invest in companies listed on global stock exchanges and meet the requirements for UCITS funds. The Fund aims to invest in equity funds with quality management and disciplined investment styles. The Fund may invest a maximum of 20% of its total assets in a single fund. It may not invest in funds that invest more than 10% of their assets in other funds.
As a rule, the Fund is fully invested in equity funds but may invest as much as 10% in short-term bonds and bills or hold cash to meet redemptions. The Fund’s management aims to outperform the Morgan Stanley Capital International index.

Taxation
The taxation of fund units is governed by the Act on Income and Net Worth Tax No. 90/2003 and the Act on Withholding Tax on Capital Gains No. 94/1996. Further taxation can occur. Unit holders not residing in Iceland can apply to the Icelandic tax authorities for an exemption from such taxation. The final taxation of non-resident unit holders depends on the local tax rules in the jurisdiction where they reside for tax purposes.
Investment in derivatives
In accordance with its Investment policy, the Fund is permitted to use derivatives to lock in profits, to minimize risk or to lock in prices in Fixed Income instruments because of forseeable redemptions or to act on market changes.
